Irene's Visit

Hurricane Irene hit us on Saturday night into Sunday morning. I will be honest with you..I didn't think it was that big of a deal. The weather people always make every storm out to be like SO BIG when really it is not at all. I had to laugh on Friday when I went to the store...They were out of water, bread, and batteries..even Costco. Like seriously? I mean, it is fine to be prepared  but come on people! This is why it is always good to have this stuff on hand regardless of the weather outside. It made me grateful to have emergency kits (well, we kind of have them..but gradually building them up), water, and tonz of food (good thing our power didn't go out).
They closed the mall at 5 pm on Saturday before the storm even arrived. That is how crazy people are. I made Dave go to Walmart with me late Friday night just to take pictures of all the empty isles and to get a good laugh.

So, Saturday as the storm began, they started announcing tornado warnings in Delaware and Maryland. This freaked me out! I hated living in Texas for 8 long years and always losing sleep over the warnings. Anyways, I told Dave that we would be next to have a tornado warning. He was like- yeah right! Well, we did! This was scary, although we figured it wouldn't hit us. It is still always good to be safe. It is a good thing that a few months back after that horrible tornado in Missouri happened we talked about what we would do if we ever had a tornado and where we would hide out. Well, we cleaned out the closet where we ended up hiding out earlier that day...so we had plenty of room down there (it was in our basement).

Well, we are safe. We lucked out. We had no tornado, no flooding and no power outage. I am grateful that we were at least prepared. It is sad at the damage Irene did do. A lot of people around us got flooded out. I mean flooding that I have never seen before. It makes me so sad for them. So many houses destroyed. I think me and Dave now know where NOT to move one day.:) The city I lived in before we got married is under water (Ok..one street).

Here are a few pictures of flooding near by. I hope everyone stayed safe!

We have now experienced an earthquake, hurricane and somewhat of a tornado all in one week! Granted, non of which were really bad!

PS..One thing that made me laugh- we filled up our bathtub in case we needed extra water for plumbing, and when we woke up the next morning, I went to check on it and in was empty! So much for that idea! Looks like we need a new drainage system!

Temple trip with some mexican food on the side

Dave and I went to the DC temple on Friday. It is always so striking as driving on the highway......

Going to the temple is kinda hard when you live 2 1/2 hrs away from it. It ends up being like a day trip. It is totally worth it but hey, I will be honest..I can't wait for the Philadelphia temple to be done! It will be so weird to be able to go to the temple whenever and even during the week or at night!

Whenever we go to the temple, we always stay in DC for the day and eat somewhere fun.  On Friday when we went we had the wonderful experience of Cafe Rio...yes, that's right - they now have a Cafe Rio on the east coast! It was so good. It was also a little funny seeing other people in there that were obviously mormon..they were wearing their BYU shirts. I bet it gets a lot of bussiness from us!
It was totally worth it! They will have to get a Cafe Rio here in Philly before the temple is finished because we won't have an excuse to go there anymore!

I think Dave really enjoyed it! It is so funny because before he met me he never ate mexican food. Now, we eat it all the time..well that and pasta (he is Italian)!!!

Once upon a time...

there was glass in my face...
and it was there for 6 yrs.

I was in a car accident 6 yrs ago. Someone hit the passenger side ( I was driving ) ..the glove box hit my face, knocking my out. I woke up in the ER to find that I had gotten stitches on my face. I was a little sad but grateful that it happened where it did and didn't do any damage to my eye.

This happened out in Utah, while I was there visiting. A few days after it happened I came back to PA and decided I would take the stitches out by myself.  So, I did.

It never healed right. I have always had a weird bump, bruise, scar or whatever on my face. It has always hurt if I slept on it wrong or accidently bumped it. I figured it was because I took the stitches out and maybe didn't take them out the right way.

So a few weeks ago, I noticed something white underneath the scar. I thought it was pus or something. I started picking at it, and nothing. The next day I woke up with a scab. A few days after that, Dave went to kiss me and I turned my head (who does that to their husband)..and he ended up kissing (bumping) my scab area. It then started gushing with blood and I started freaking out. It ended up scabbing even more ...or so I thought.

I finally decided to go to the Dr and see what was up. I explained to her what had happened 6 years ago and that I thought that there was still a stitch under my skin. She said that it was very doubtful but asked if the windshield had broke in the accident because the scab looked like glass. I was shocked but knew that the windsheild did break so it was a possibility. She took a closer look and indeed it was a chunk of glass! She numbed my face and stithced me back up and now I am all better!

I am so happy to have finally solved the mystery of why I always had a bump on my face and such a weird scar!  My face looks the best that it has looked in 6 yrs and that I am grateful for!

ps - it really was a chunk of glass. I am still in shock!
